Over 30 dead in Gombe bomb blasts - Red Cross

A Red Cross official has confirmed that more than 30 people were killed in the two blasts at a market in Gombe, Gombe state today.

Nobody has claimed responsibility for the blasts, which went off around 5:30pm (1630 GMT), but they bear the hallmarks of attacks by Boko Haram.

The militant Islamists have killed thousands in a six-year insurgency in the country's northeast. In the last two months, they have killed close to 900 people.

"I have 30 bodies in bags and I am sure there are more out there," said the Red Cross official, who was involved in the evacuation and wanted to remain anonymous.

An official from the National Emergency Management Agency also confirmed that the attacks had taken place and many people were hurt.

President Muhammadu Buhari has made crushing the insurgents his top priority, but hundreds have been killed in bombings and shootings since he was inaugurated on May 29.

Happy Sallah to you All wishing you all the best in it many more....

Read President Buhari’s Eid-el-Fitr Message To All Muslims

Fellow Compatriots,

I greet and felicitate with you all, especially our citizens of the Islamic faith on this auspicious occasion of the 2015 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

I congratulate all those who have successfully completed the Ramadan fast in keeping with the injunction of our Creator.

Although we have come to the end of this year's month of Ramadan, I believe that a greater acceptance by Nigerians of its key lessons of self-denial and sacrifice will serve our dear country well as we strive to overcome our present challenges, undo the damage done by years of bad governance and accelerate the pace of national development.

Reviewing our dire circumstances and the many missed opportunities of the past, some commentators and observers have said that this is Nigeria's last chance to get its act together and finally begin to fulfill its God-given potential for greatness.

While not going that far, I certainly believe that now, more than ever before, our country needs greater self-denial, sacrifice and patriotism from all of its citizens, if we are to quickly recover from our numerous problems and start moving in a positive direction.

This current period of our life as a nation offers us a great opportunity to break from the vicious triangle of insecurity, corruption and under-development. We must collectively resolve to seize this opportunity and unite to confront our problems.

I remain wholly committed to giving the required leadership towards undoing the wrongs of the past, ensuring that Nigeria truly begins to unlock its great potential and that the benefits of our immense national resources are shared and enjoyed by all, not just by successive cabals of corrupt leaders and their cronies.

I was very aware of your high expectations when I assumed office and I reassure you, my fellow citizens, that since my inauguration on the 29th of May this year, I have been working with utmost dedication to meticulously plan and tackle the many national challenges which we identified and promised to resolve.

To succeed however, I need your continued support, understanding and patience.

I fully understand and share the thirst of my long-suffering compatriots for corruption-free government institutions that work efficiently to deliver visible development for the benefit of all citizens.

I also share the feelings of those who think that we should be moving faster. But I urge them and all Nigerians to trust that my commitment to real and positive change in our nation is as firm as ever.

There is indeed much work to be done, but we must do it well and carefully to ensure that the great opportunity which we now have is not lost to the "business as usual" group who selfishly or shortsightedly prefer a status quo that panders to their personal or group interests.

The adverse effects of years of rot, corruption, inept and bad governance on our nation are immense, but certainly not insurmountable if we all resolve now to place the well-being of our nation above all other considerations and work whole-heartedly with the present administration to achieve greater peace and security across the nation, and reposition our country for faster economic development and progress.

May Almighty Allah continue to guide us and bless our dear nation.

I wish you all happy Eid-el- Fitr celebrations.

Suspected Cultist Gun Down Resident Near Community School (Photo)

Residents of Eru Oloja, Simawa community in the Mowe area of Ogun State have protested the killing of a man, Oluwaseun Adebayo, near the community school by gunmen who were suspected cultists.

PUNCH Metrolearnt that some landlords in the area, who thronged the Ogijo Police Division, demanded an immediate arrest of the suspects, who were identified as Eiye Confraternity members.

Our correspondent gathered that on Tuesday, July 7, at about 5.30pm, 32-year-old Adebayo, also known as Jafunrae, boarded a commercial motorcycle from Lotto, Mowe, and was heading for his house.

It was learnt that another commercial motocycle, conveying three men in black dresses, however, waylaid him.

The assailants, who were said to have trailed Adebayo from Lotto to Eru Oloja community, shot him in the head near a bush in the community primary school, and fled the area.

The victim died instantly.
Some of the aggrieved landlords, who accused the police of slow investigation into the case, reportedly headed for the police station, demanding that the cultists be apprehended.

Speaking with PUNCH Metro, a landlord, who identified himself only as Baba Ijebu, said the killing, if not checked, could result in reprisals and turn the area into a battlefield for cultists.
He said, "We were shocked that cultists would kill a grown-up man in broad daylight in our area. The sound of gunshots caused confusion.

We do not know what the deceased and the attackers had in common, but why should they kill him in our area. We don't want the other gang to invade our area and start killing our children. We want the police to intensify security in our area."

Our correspondent learnt that Adebayo, whose family could not be contacted for comment as of the time of visit, was a factory worker.

He was reportedly heading home when he was killed.
Another resident, who gave his name as Esa Oke, said the deceased's body was left on the road till the following day, adding that schoolchildren saw it.

He said, "The man was shot dead beside the only primary school in our area. Imagine that it was school hours, one of our children could have been hit by stray bullets.

"If cultists are waylaying one another, let them know which area to go because we do not belong to any cult group in this area. The police should do their work, and let us live in peace.

"The man's bloodstained body was on the road overnight, and our children were made to be seeing that gory sight. The deceased was said to be a member of the Aiye Confraternity."

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said the police had intensified patrol in the area, which led to the arrest of two suspects. He said the suspects would be charged to court on Wednesday (today).

He said, "The killing is true, but policemen in the area, led by the Divisional Police Officer, launched a raid on the cultists' hideout, and arrested two suspected cultists.

"We have not established whether the two are responsible for the killing, but they will be charged to court for cultism on Wednesday. Patrols have also been intensified in the area."

7 Reasons Why Most Upcoming Artistes Will Never Blow

Most upcoming artistes fail to blow not by destiny or ill luck, but as a result of lack of priorities, styles and many more which we shall discuss.

1. They Don't Advertise Themselves

If you think miracle is all you need to blow, then you must be seriously sleeping on a moving bicycle. To blow in Nigeria, you have to advertise yourself aggressively and give it whatever it takes. As a matter of fact, it's not a bad idea advertising that track of yours on Naijaloaded where we have music freaks who are always at alert to download Naijaloaded front page musics, and may not even hesitate to share it with their friends if it's really worth it. You can ask Qdot and Olamide, they will confirm to you that good music will surely help your Career.

2. They Patronize Cheap Producers

You need not sing like Michael Jackson before you blow. However, the impact of good production cannot be overemphasized anytime any day. Most upcoming artistes may not blow because they always patronize backyard producers who will produce 5 tracks for them at the rate of N10, 000. Ooooh common that ridiculously cheap !!.

We know you are not rich yet! But at least, spending as little as N20, 000 to produce a single track is much more better than seeking producers who produce 5 tracks for N10, 000

3. Lack of Creativity

What makes one stand out amongst his peers is creativity and uniqueness. However, many upcoming artistes fail to get to the peak of their dreams not because witches and wizards are following them, but because they are not creative in any way.

4. Pride

Pride is also a determinant of how far one will go in his music career. However, it is very evident that it's the habit of most upcoming artistes to always give people a false sense of their financial status through their dressings, spending and what not. They are sometimes proud that they raise shoulders to people who are meant to help or make their dreams come true in a little way they can. This is one of the reasons why many of them have failed to blow

5. Poor Dress Sense

They say your appearance is the first letter of recommendation. The mode of dressing of many upcoming artistes is sometimes childish and annoying. You see many of them dressing like masquerades; looking unkempt, poor colour combination, unattractive hairstyle, and many more which I cannot mention. The truth of the matter is that, when your appearance cannot catch people"s fancy, how do you convince them to listen to your track?

6. Immature Lyrics

Good lyrics and punch lines is all you need to at least gain some recognition. When you listen to the songs of many upcoming artistes, you will keep wondering if the songs was composed within the ambit of 5mins. That is, they sing a chorus repeatedly for about three minutes after which a verse will follow suite and that's the end of the song. Haba !!! It may be working for Vizkid but that doesn't mean you should try that

7. Imitating The Style Of Others

To succeed in life, you have to do something others are not doing, or what they have never done. As a matter of fact, we know that 2face already has his own style and that's his brand, so why copy his style as a leverage to also get to limelight ?, when you know that you may be seen as a copy cat . Try to build up your own style

Buhari Says He Sees No Reason ToRemove Fuel Subsidy Yet

President Muhammadu Buhari, Monday in Abuja said that his government may not remove subsidy on petroleum subsidy, stressing that arguments in favour of the removal were not reasonable enough. More so, the removal will have adverse effect on the poor and jobless Nigerians.

Buhari said this after receiving a briefing from the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and other agencies in the oil sector on a review of existing agreements for the swapping of crude oil for refined products with a view to injecting more honesty and transparency into the process to reduce costs. He promised to carefully review all the submissions he had received on the need to remove the subsidies.

"I have received many literature on the need to remove subsidies, but much of it has no depth.

"When you touch the price of petroleum products, that has the effect of triggering price rises on transportation, food and rents. That is for those who earn salaries, but there are many who are jobless and will be affected by it," he said.

According to Buhari, what impeded transparency in the oil sector may not be the subsidy but lack of security, sabotage, vandalism, corruption and mismanagement; issues he intends to deal with decisively.

"We have to go back to the good old days of transparency and accountability," the President said .

Why We Cannot Sell Fuel At N87 Per Litre - Ondo, Ekiti Dealers

Despite the sealing of some filling stations in Ondo and Ekiti States by the Department of petroleum Resources (DPR), the Petroleum Dealers and Owners Association in the states on Monday said it would not be able to sell fuel at the pump price of N87 per litre due to non-availability of the product.

Chairman of the association, Mr Jimi Oladapo, said at a news conference in Akure that petrol was not available at the NNPC depots, adding that members had been sourcing it through other means at exorbitant cost.

According to Oladapo, rather than forcing them to sell at unrealistic price, the Federal Government should deregulate the downstream oil sector to enable them to sell at appropriate prices
"Specifically, total cost per litre of fuel from Lagos ranges between N104 and N108 while the landing cost per litre from Oghara/Warri in Delta State is between N105 and N108 per litre.

"The landing cost is exclusive of operating expenses such as diesel to run the station, staff salaries and wages, strategies, office and pump maintenance.

"From the analysis, you will agree with us that it will be impossible for us to sell at the government approved price of N87 per litre," he said.

Adedapo also noted that even when NNPC gives out fuel, the cost to them at their stations are above N89 per litre.

"One wonders how a businessman with responsibilities can sell below cost price. The ordinary law of supply and demand will not allow it," he stressed.

"Rather than running our stations at a loss, since most of us are on loan from financial institutions, we have resolved not to procure the products until it is readily available at NNPC depots", he said.

US Pastor Jailed For Refusing To Marry Gay Couple

A pastor at the Christian Proctor Church in Vermont, has been sentenced to one year in federal prison after refusing to marry a gay couple.

This comes shortly after the Supreme Court's 5-4 decision ruling that states must allow gay-marriage.

The Christian Pastor, 56-year-oldPaul Horner, had his lawyer speak to reporters on his behalf.

"We are currently disputing the guilty verdict and I am confident my client will be a free man here shortly," said attorney Tom Downey. "Horner was just using his best judgement according to his rights and religious freedom in this country."

The Honorable Myron Danus handed down the harsh sentence.

"Religious freedom goes both ways, Mr. Horner," Danus told a packed courtroom. "It is not your place to deny individuals the same rights that everyone else has, rights that were passed down and agreed upon in a court of law, the ultimate court, the Supreme Court. It is not your decision whether or not you agree with the law but more importantly that you follow it and enforce it."

According to the criminal investigation, the Christian Proctor Church is registered with the state as a "religious corporation" limited to performing "one-man-one-woman marriages as defined by the Holy Bible."

But the church is also registered as a for-profit business and city officials said that means the owners must comply with state and federal regulations.

Steve Shand president of the Vermont Family Research Committee, said it is "open season on Americans who refuse to bow to the government's redefinition of marriage."

"Homosexuals are gay," Shand told reporters. "Why should Christian ministers be forced to perform and celebrate any marriage that conflicts with their beliefs? It's a slippery slope my friend. Pretty soon these same pastors will be forced to wed animals or kitchen appliances. This is not my America!"

Gwen Hawkins who is president of the LGBT Pride Center in Vermont said she is happy with the guilty verdict.

"We just want the same rights as everyone else and this guilty verdict sets a great precedent," Hawkins said. "These fanatical Christians base their life on one verse in the Bible but they seem to forget the other 99% of the verses in the book.

For example, why can't we stone to death Bristol Palinfor having a baby out of wedlock? And what about her mother, Sarah Palin, breaking the rules of Corinthians 14:34 which clearly state that as a woman, she is not allowed to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.

But no, they like to pick the one verse in the Bible about gay people and build their camp around it."

Proctor is a town in Rutland County, Vermont, United States. The population was 1,741 at the 2010 census. Proctor is home to the Vermont Marble Museum and Wilson Castle.

Osun Workers Resume As Govt. Commences Payment Of Salaries Owed

Osun State workers yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government to put an end to their six-week industrial action.
Following a meeting with government representatives at the Governor's Office in Osogbo, Labour leaders called on civil servants in the state to resume work today.
The MoU was signed by the State government, the Joint Public Service Negotiating Councils (JPSNC), the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), of Osun.

However, Council of Academic Staff Unions of Osun State-owned Tertiary Institutions (CASUOSTI) dissociated itself from the strike call-off.

In a statement in Osogbo, by its Secretary, Comrade Olusegun Lana, CASUOSTI maintained that they would continue with the strike as the problem of alleged mismanagement of their contributory pension scheme and deductions from their salaries were not resolved.

Meanwhile, the state government has reportedly commenced the payment of backlog of workers' salaries, starting with January and February, 2015 for state workers and March and April, 2015 for Local Government counterparts.

Other ongoing payments included that of primary school teachers, balance of pensions for state government for November 2014, outstanding pensions for January-February, 2015 for Retired Primary School Teachers and March, 2015 Pensions for Retired Local Government Staff.

Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Jacob Adekomi, who spoke on behalf of other labour leaders pointed out that labour, in ending the strike considered the parlous financial situation of the state arising from decline in monthly Federal Allocations and dwindling Internally Generated Revenue, IGR which originally led to non-payment of six months' salaries.

"The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by the State government, the Joint Public Service Negotiating Councils (JPSNC), the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), of Osun. The MOU we are signing today is agreed to by both parties taking due cognisance of the present parlous financial situation of the state on an interim basis, as a condition precedent to suspending the strike action.
"Committees will be set up according to the MOU aimed at screening, determination of the actual wage bill, and workers in the employment of the state, the actual number and actual monthly pensions' bills of both Local Governments' and State Government Pensioners," Adekomi said.

The experienced German midfielder has ended his 17-year association with Bayern Munich, reuniting with old boss Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford in a £14 million deal

Bastian Schweinsteiger has completed his move to Manchester United from Bayern Munich, signing a three-year contract with the Red Devils.

The Germany international flew into Manchester over the weekend, underwent a medical on Sunday and has now penned personal terms to seal his £14 million move.

The transfer marks a reunion with former Bayern boss Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford, with the Dutchman having been the driving force behind a deal for a player he helped turn into one of the world's best central midfielders.

Van Gaal believes Schweinsteiger's experience will be invaluable to his squad, and will soon be able to partner the German alongside Morgan Schneiderlin after agreeing a deal with Southampton for the Frenchman.

The duo are likely to compete with Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera and Daley Blind for places in United's starting XI next season, while more arrivals – including a centre-back and striker – are expected.

The Red Devils are also yet to resolve David De Gea's future, though Real Madrid's move for Espanyol goalkeeper Kiko Casilla has given them renewed hope, while Angel Di Maria could be on the verge of a summer exit.

Schweinsteiger won eight Bundesliga titles and the Champions League with Bayern, also winning the World Cup last summer, and paid tribute to a club he has spent his entire career at.

Law Breaker: Police Sergeant Arrested After Leading Robbery Gang

A Sergeant with the Nigerian Police has been arrested for leading a gang of armed robbers.….

A serving police sergeant serving with the Area 'A' Police Command, Lion Building, Campbell, Lagos State, Joseph Okweke, has been arrested for leading a notorious armed robbery gang that has been terrorising residents of the state.

It was gathered that Sergeant Okweke, who hails from Obuluku in Delta State, used to wear his uniform and gave out guns and ammunitions to his gang whenever they went to rob.

He told investigators that the sight of his uniform used to make people to lower their guards, making it easy for him and his men to swoop on them.

The five-man-gang of robbers, which specialised in attacking ware houses and tying up security guards, were busted after they went for their last operation at Ogudu area of the state.

While two members of the gang escaped, Okweke and other two were arrested. The two had been identified as Gbenga and Orobo.

Orobo is a dismissed army officer who had refused to reveal why he was kicked out of the army.

The men were arrested by security guards attached to a company they went to rob and handed over to officers at the Ogudu Police Station. While being interrogated, Okweke said he had been robbing with his uniform for over five years.

A 17-Year Secondary School Boy Rapes A 5-year Old Girl (Photo)

It was indeed an eye sore yesterday evening as a 17 year old boy was caught raping a 5-year old girl.

Read according to the report below:-

It all started around 2pm, at st Charles Lwanga Catholic church, okpoko in onitsha, Anambra state when some few chaps rushed inside the church and were crying and calling for help.

when we inquired they all begged and asked us to come and help them. Some rushed immediately, why we tried getting sticks and stones to the scene.

However, since i was part of those picking sticks i cant confirm whether the girl was actually penetrated or not but it was visibly seen by the way the girl was walking that there was Penetration.

When we caught the boy and thoroughly dealt with him he still refused to speak up due to the embarrassment from his classmates who surrounded him and calling his name, Ukwa,Ukwa,Ukwa.

However, the girl told us that the boy who lives next door called her to buy moi moi for her, noticeably seen that she was hungry, she went for the evil moi moi when the boy pounced on her covering her mouth.

Fortunately he was seen by some girls who came to call us. The boy has been handed over to the police, for further investigations.

The call of duty is over for top ranking members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who were appointed ambassadors by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

They were recalled home last night by President Muhammadu Buhari after three years of service abroad.

Prominent among them are a former Foreign Affairs Minister , Chief Ojo Maduekwe (Canada); Chairman of the Jonathan Presidential Campaign Organisation in the 2011 election, Dr. Dalhatu Tafida (UK);Professor Ade Adefuye (USA);widow of the late Ikemba Nnewi, Chief Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Bianca (Spain);and former deputy governor of Oyo State, Mr. Taofeek Arapaja (Jordan).

"I am sure the envoy in Saudi Arabia is already on his way and quite many others should be reporting to the ministry by Monday.

I really don't have a comprehensive list of the number of people that are affected but they are posted in different continents mostly in key European, Asian and American countries."

The sack is the biggest since President Buhari assumed office on May 29.

Their nominations were endorsed by the Senate on Wednesday February 8, 2012, nearly two months after former President Jonathan submitted their names.

On the list were 32 names of politicians.

The ex-President in a letter to the then Senate President, David Mark, requested that in line with section 171(1) C, sub-section 4 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, the Senate should consider the list, hoping that "this exercise will receive the usual kind expeditious attention of the Distinguished Members of the Senate of the Federal Republic."

Of the 88 nominees sent to the Senate by Jonathan, only 87 appeared before the screening committee, while 84 passed the screening.

Two of the nominees, Mrs. Sifawu Momoh, Edo; and Mazi Okafor Ojih, Ebonyi, could not scale the screening as the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs did not recommend them for confirmation.

Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu, who was nominated to represent Anambra State on the list of non-career category, did not appear for screening but was confirmed nonetheless, her nomination coming barely a week after her husband died in a London hospital.

Maduekwue was nominated by Jonathan following his ouster as National Secretary of the party in what observers said was a move to placate him.

Kamson, Njeze and Arapaja had all failed to secure the party's governorship tickets in their states.

The recall of Ambassadors serving in foreign missions is a routine exercise especially where there is a change of guard at the federal level.

Scam Master: President Buhari’s ‘Son’ Arrested For Defrauding Unsuspecting Nigerians

A con man who has been posing as the son of President Buhari to dupe unsuspecting people has been arrested……

Sident Muhammadu Buhari so as to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians with the promises of giving them lucrative contracts from the government, has been arrested by operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

A statement from the FCT SARS say the suspect has continuously promised to secure contracts for his victims from the president, saying he had made billions of naira through this illicit venture.

He was also dropping names of top politicians and businessmen to convince his victims, often wielding superimposed photos of himself with the president and other top politicians.

The statement reads:

"He mostly approached big contractors, who were desperate to see the president or any of the governors. He would put fake calls across to the supposed politicians in the presence of his victims and convince them to book appointments.

From there, he would demand that the politician's security officials needed to be settled with huge amounts of money before the contractor would be granted audience with the president or the governor."

But the fake president's son ran into troubled waters when a duped contractor, after waiting for many weeks without getting to see the president as promised by the hoodlum, reported his ordeal to the police, complaining that after collecting lots of money from him, the scammer was yet to take him to the president.

To the surprise of the police operatives, the suspect turned out to be a criminal who has been on their wanted list for similar offences in the past.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT command, Anjuguri Manzah, confirmed the story, saying that acting on a tipoff, SARS operatives arrested the suspect on Saturday, July 4, at about 2 am.

"The truth is that the suspect had defrauded so many people. To perfect his act, he paraded himself as the son of the president. Three Mercedez Benz and one Peugeot 406 cars were recovered from him as exhibits."

How Buhari’s Slow Pace Is Affecting The War Against Boko Haram

President Muhammadu Buhari's current slow approach to governance is affecting the prosecution of the war against extremist group, Boko Haram, in the north east, findings by PREMIUM TIMES have shown.

Officials in the administration and some retired security and military experts who spoke to PREMIUM TIMES, expressed the view that the decision by the president to continue working with the service chiefs and the National Security Adviser he inherited from the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, is greatly affecting the war.

"Service Chiefs are currently sitting at the edge of their seats; there is a regime of uncertainty because it was clear to them and everyone that they would not be part of the new administration, as such, they presently do not go the extra mile," one official said.

We also gathered at the Defence Headquarters that there is presently no long term commitment on the part of the Service Chiefs and other top commanders, owing largely, to the uncertainty regarding their tenure.

"All the Service Chiefs have cleared their desks including the NSA, and each day, they expect to receive the news of their sack, in that case, how do you expect someone to be in the right frame to prosecute a war as complex as the one against Boko Haram who use civilian targets as shield," he said.

Our source added that the Service Chiefs are presently hardly taking any decision on the war and security matters.

"They are often only called in to be given directive to carry out, the president is the one in charge," he said.

"Take for example the decision to remove military checkpoints; an order was simply given without recourse to brainstorming on the issue," he said.

Another retired army general, who also asked not to be named for "personal reasons" said other high ranking military officers, sensing the insecurity on the part of the service chiefs have begun to show signs of indiscipline.

He said top commanders are unable to enforce discipline at present because "everyone knows that the leadership are living on borrowed time, and so, hardly carry out directives".

Our source added that the tenure of Service Chiefs is usually two years and the current chiefs were appointed in January 2014, as such, they know sack or not, they would leave by January 2016.

"I know that what is agitating the minds of our chiefs at present is planning their post retirement life and not any long term plan to prosecute a war

"What I would advise the president is to allow them leave, so that he, himself would be focused with a fresh team he personally put in place, the earlier we do this, the better for us as a nation," the source said.

Just like what obtains at present in the military, this newspaper had reported recently how the delay by Mr. Buhari to make key appointments more than three weeks after assumption of office was taking a serious toll on government businesses.

We reported that the president's delay in filling important government positions, especially the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, was hurting the smooth running of government businesses.

PREMIUM TIMES investigations revealed that the day to day operations of the different ministries, departments and agencies have been weakened, while coordination of important government policies and programmes has become a mess.

"The country can ill-afford further delay by the president to make these vital appointments," a federal permanent secretary said on Wednesday.

"From the presidency to the ministries, departments and agencies, everything has come to virtual standstill."

Scores Of Boko Haram Members Feared Dead In Battle With Troops

Scores of suspected terrorists were feared dead when troops who were newly deployed to the troubled Borno state clashed on their way along Damaturu-Maiduguri on Saturday morning.

The incident according to sources took place on Saturday morning between Ngamdu- Mainok- Jakana villages which is about 50km drive to Maiduguri, the state capital.

Between Benisheik and Ngamdu is about 25km stretch of road without any security checkpoint.

The source said, the terrorists in a convoy of three white -in- colour Hilux Vehicles had earlier barricaded the road where they blocked two motorists including a truck which they suspected were conveying foodstuff to Maiduguri, but luck run out of them as troops with support from the Jakana village immediately swung into action and killed some of the terrorists, dislodged most of them before they set ablaze two hilux vehicles with destruction of the other white new brand hilux belonging to the terrorists.

The source added that at about 12noon, a detached group of military troops were seen at the scene with over four Armoured Patrol Carriers evacuating some corpses and the injured to Maiduguri, but insisted that he cannot know whether any of the troops had a casualty during the deadly clash that lasted for about two hours.

"I can confidentially tell you that the busy Maiduguri-Damaturu road had a deadly attack between insurgents and troops, which I believe many of the terrorists were killed with destruction of three of their vehicles". The source stated.

A police officer stationed in one of the villagers on the said highway informed our reporter that travellers are being asked to make a u-turn as the terrorists had taken over the road between Benisheik (a town 85km away from Maiduguri) and Ngamdu (35km away from Damaturu.

The officer who does not want to mention his name because it is not part of his job to speak to the press said the terrorists had attacked Ngamdu village of Benesheikh, the council headquarters of Kaga Local Government Area and killed ten persons there on Friday night.

"It may be the same group of terrorists that attempted to attack Benesheikh on Friday but were repelled by troops that were crossing the main road before they clash with the troops on Saturday morning". The police source stated.

Lamido Cries Out From Prison: I’m Being Persecuted Over 2019 Presidency

After spending 72 hours with his two sons in Kano Central Prison, immediate past governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has imputed political motives to his incarceration.

According to the former governor, he is being persecuted by those who feel that they would not be able to actualise their presidential ambition with him around the political arena.

Lamido, who spoke exclusively to Sunday Vanguard through his media aide, Umar Kyari, yesterday, drew the attention of Nigerians and the international community to the attempt being made by those he called "my political enemies" to silence him using the instrumentality of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Lamido pointed out that it was clear from the outset that there was a grand design to put him away in prison for a long time under the guise of money laundering and sundry charges so as to pave the way for his political enemies to have their way.

The former governor, whose many supporters relocated to the Kano Central Prison where they kept vigil over him and his two sons, said he was determined to prove to Nigerians that he was innocent but was merely being witch-hunted by those who feel threatened by his rising political profile.

Lamido's spokesman said: "This current effort to frame and denigrate the former governor of Jigawa State with a view to rubbishing his high performance in office will come to naught at the end of the day.

"Lamido remains nothing but a scion of accountability and integrity who has always fought on the side of the people, particularly the downtrodden and the vulnerable, since he came into the national political scene.

"He remains unshaken over the trumped-up charges slammed on him by the EFCC knowing that he has not committed any offense to warrant being thrown into the prison over a bailable offense.

"But the refusal by his traducers to grant him and his sons bail when others charged same day and time for even more grievous offences were admitted to bail speaks volume of the intention and mindset of those who are after him.

"Nonetheless, Sule Lamido strongly believes that, after being imprisoned several times all in a bid to pave the way for sustained democracy in Nigeria, the current effort by the EFCC and others to humiliate him and his family over the so-called money laundering charges will not break his resolve to continue to fight on the side of the people.

"It is Lamido's strong belief that having not committed any offense against the state to warrant being sent to prison, he and his two sons will be freed and vindicated against the wicked plot of their adversaries".

Meanwhile, Lamido is said to have been overwhelmed by the large number of friends and well wishers from across Nigeria who have thronged the prison to show solidarity with him and his two sons.

A close source at the prison told Sunday Vanguard that Lamido was jolted by the show of love and solidarity that he shed what the source described as "tears of joy" on Friday.

The former governor reportedly came out on Friday afternoon in one of his best attires to the office of the prison controller with a view to getting close to all those who had thronged the prison yard to see him.

Sunday Vanguard learnt last night that Lamido and sons were likely to be admitted to bail tomorrow (Monday) as a vacation judge was most likely to hear their bail application on that day.

A source said Lamido's associates had already prepared in many ways to meet whatever conditions the judge might stipulate for their release from prison pending the hearing of the case in September.

Lamido and his two sons, according to the charge sheet of the EFCC after what the anti-graft agency described as a thorough investigation, alleged during the arraignment of the accused persons at a Federal High Court sitting in Kano, that they laundered N1.35 billion.

They were slammed with a 28-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust.

The trial judge, Justice Evelyn Anyadike, adjourned the case till September 28 while ordering that the suspects be remanded in Kano Prison.

Anyadike, however, ruled that the case will be handed over to a vacation judge to listen to the accused persons bail application while the judiciary goes on vacation today.

No one saw this one coming, I bet even Wizzy himself didn't foresee this one, but we LOVE IT!!!

Well, Drake and Skepta hopped on Wizkid's HIT single Ojuelegba which first streamed on Drake's OVO Apple Music Radio Show earlier yesterday.

From our understanding, Skepta played this track for Drake while he was out in the UK for the Wireless festival and Drake decided to lay his verse on it and you can tell that he was really into the track.

Looks like Wizkid is closer to crossing over than many of you thought. Oshey!!!
