A herbalist c*m fraudster, Babatunde Awofadeju, thought he was being smart when he told a contestant to a royal throne in Osun State that he could use his powers to help him get to the throne, but ended duping the man of the sum of N420,000.
Awofadeju who has been arrested by the state Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), was nabbed at his shrine after the contestant lost of out the battle and all efforts to collect his money back proved abortive, and he reported the matter to the agency which swooped in on the 'Babalawo' at his shrine at the Ogunda area of Ogbagbaa, in the state.
According to reports, the suspect was said to have charged his client N980,000 to enable the said prince ascend the throne whether there was opposition against him or not, telling him that a sacrifice was required to be carried out using two 'gorillas', or in ritualist parlance, Inaki-igboro, which means human beings.
Awofadeju who is from a native of Ilesa area in the state, however told the NSCDC that he has been duping people for several years using his trade as a cover, using his sales representatives, who hawked concoctions, to bring him clients, while also advertising heavily in national newspapers.
He said:
"I started this herbalist work about eight years ago after I was duped by some people when I was into cocoa trade in Ilesa."
The Commandant of the NSCDC in the state, Tajudeen Balogun, said the fake herbalist would soon be charged to court.
