Boko Haram Militants Seize Damaturu-Maiduguri Road

Reports reaching PREMIUM TIMESsay Boko Haram militants have taken over the highway linking Maiduguri and Damaturu, capitals of Borno and Yobe states respectively.

A police officer stationed in one of the villages along the highway, told PREMIUM TIMES that travellers are being asked to return as the terrorists have taken over the road between Benisheik (a town 85km away from Maiduguri) and Ngamdu (35km away from Damaturu).

The officer, who asked that his identity be protected for security reasons, said the terrorists had attacked Ngamdu village and killed 10 persons there.

"As I am talking to you now, soldiers are moving towards Benisheik, while we are here asking motorists to return to Maiduguri until the road is cleared," he said.

There is no security checkpoint between Benisheik and Ngamdu, which is about 25km stretch of road.

Bayelsa & Kogi Governorship Elections To Hold In November & December – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission has released the timetable for governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi States. The election in Kogi is scheduled for Saturday, November 21, 2015, while that of Bayelsa will hold on Saturday, December 5, 2015.

According to a statement released by the Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Chris Eyimoga, "campains by political parties shall commence on 24th July, 2015 and end on 19th November, 2015 in Kogi and 6th September, 2015 terminating on 3rd December, 2015 in Bayelsa".

Get Ready To Patronize “Made In Nigeria” Products – Buhari To Nigerians

President Muhammadu Buhari has hinted that Nigerians get ready to patronise products made in the country after he pledged that his administration will implement essential reforms to protect Nigerian manufacturers from unfair competition from abroad.

"We will no longer allow our markets to be flooded with things we can produce ourselves. We must believe in our system. Whenever you need my intervention at anytime, please come to me, " President Buhari told the Permanent Secretary, Abdulkadir Musa and senior officials.

At a meeting with the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, and senior officials of relevant agencies, President Buhari stressed that with its focus on job creation, his government was ready to do whatever it considers necessary to boost domestic manufacturing and industrialisation.

The President said that his administration will fully support the effective implementation of the plan evolved by the Ministry to boost local manufacturing through legal, regulatory and structural reforms, lower interest rates, special intervention funds, protection of local manufacturers and significant improvements in national infrastructure.

"With high interest rates and entrepreneurs needing trillions of Naira to buy machinery, we are virtually back at Ground Zero as far as industrial development is concerned.

"So, we will shun all anti-development policies, and make the climate more suitable for entrepreneurs. We will create the environment for them to thrive. Generating employment was one of our key campaign promises and we will keep that promise.

The Permanent Secretary and his team told the President that the objective of the Ministry's Industrialisation Plan was to create more jobs, diversify exports and broaden the country's tax base.

They said that the plan's critical success factors included dialogue and consultation with industry stakeholders, essential reforms and greater collaboration among relevant agencies.

Buhari Reportedly Moves To Pacify Tinubu - Ex-Governor To Get More Ministerial Nominees

This is according to a report by Tribune.

They claim that president Buhari is considering giving former Lagos State governor Bola Tinubu more ministerial slots as a way of pacifying the national leader of the APC who is said to be very angry about the goings on in the party...especially the national Assembly crisis.

"Sources close to the APC confirmed to the Nigerian Tribune that the presidency had discovered lately that Tinubu was angry and had been putting some measures in place to pacify the national leader of APC.

Tinubu's camp was said to have been angered by Buhari's failure to back its strategies that would have ensured the emergence of candidates of the party for the positions of Senate president and Speaker of the House of Representatives.

It was learnt that Tinubu was particularly angry that Buhari did not make good his promise to address APC legislators at the International Conference Centre on June 9, leading to the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate president.

It was also gathered that Tinubu's loyalists fingered Buhari's men in the uprising that shut out the former Lagos governor from the last National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party, held in Abuja, last week.

Though Tinubu is not a member of NEC statutorily, no one really made an issue out of that until Buhari assumed office.

Some Tinubu loyalists said they suspected the presidency might have given tactical backing to the group of former governors, who threatened to storm the meeting if Tinubu was allowed at the venue.

It was, however, gathered on Thursday in Abuja that Buhari had resolved to pacify Tinubu, so that the party would not break up under his watch.

A source said the presidency was considering giving Tinubu four ministerial slots, to compensate for the loss of speaker and Senate president.

But sources in the party said that there are some hardliners who were of the view that Buhari could continue to call Tinubu's bluff, having assumed the position of party leader.

Dencia: ''I Went into Severe Depression when I Found Out My 'Sister' was Actually My Mother''

It came as a rude shock to pop singer, Dencia, when she realised that the lady she had always referred to as her sister is actually her mother. In a chat with Saturday Beats, the fair skinned singer said that she went into a state of severe depression when she found out.

Years later, she has been able to come to terms with the reality of her birth and has fought the depression. She said that everything is fine in her family but nobody seems to want to tell her the story of her birth.

"I went into depression; it was a severe case of depression. It was a very hard and trying period for me but I am glad that I was able to get out of it and get my life back together. My depression was not because of what the media said about me, it was more of a family matter. Not many people know my story.

I was raised by my grandparents and till I clocked 16, I did not know that the person who I thought was my sister was actually my mother and the lady I thought was my mother was my grandmother. I cry whenever I tell the story and the truth is that it really never affected me until I became an adult. They found it difficult to tell me the real story and anytime I wanted to talk about it, nobody seemed to want to talk about it. It is a really complicated story. All I know is that I am half Nigerian and half Cameroonian," she said. The young lady who is currently promoting her new latest work, African Energy, said that she does not have a lover but would get one when the time is right.

"I am not in any serious relationship. I talk to some guys here and there especially in Europe but there has never been anything serious. When the time comes, I would definitely be with somebody and take some time off my work," she said.

49-year old Managing Director of Medical Centre Commits Suicide

The 49 year-old Chief Consultant Gynaecologist and Managing Director of Hope Medical Centre Benin City, Dr John Abode, who was found dead in his wardrobe last Tuesday, may have actually committed suicide, Vanguard gathered.

Vanguard learned from a top security source that the deceased who was said to have attempted suicide on several occasions, but was stopped by the widow, injected himself with a yet-to-be disclosed substance before heading to his wardrobe where he hanged himself with his belt.

It was learned that the day the sad incident occurred, the wife attended a church service where she later called their 10-year-old son to inform the father that she wanted to speak with him.

The source told Vanguard: "It was at that point that the boy searched the house and discovered the deceased body in the wardrobe."

It was learned that the deceased's wife rushed down to their residence and it was in an attempt to see if she could revive the husband that she moved the body out of the wardrobe.

From investigations, the wife had earlier informed the deceased's family about the attempted suicide in the past by their son, which made the widow to be deeply involved in church activities to intercede for the husband in prayers.

It was further gathered that though the deceased, who also is a staff of the Stella Obasanjo Women and Children Hospital in Benin City, was a successful gynaecologist, his alleged occasional erratic behaviour at home had been a source of great concern to the wife, who had always counselled him against his urge to commit suicide.

Though the deceased's family is suspecting foul play, autopsy results so far indicated that the deceased died as a result of cessation, mostly caused by suicide. However, the family of the deceased called for another autopsy which is being conducted in Lagos.

Timaya Advises Burna Boy – “Don’t Care About Awards

Nigerian music artist whose daughter turned three recently Timaya, took his time to send out words of advice to colleague, Burna Boy over the nominee list of the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA), which was unveiled last month.

The MTV Africa Music Awards organisers unveiled nominees for the 2015 edition in June and Burna Boy, felt disappointed when he couldn't find his name on the list.

He took to the social media to rant and air his frustration where the organisers replied him saying he should try again next year.

Burna Boy's frustration obviously caught the attention of Timaya, an act who has been around for much longer and the 'Bow Down' star deemed it fit to share some words of wisdom with Burna.

In Timaya's words he adviced his colleague saying, don't allow anyone feel you are not good enough…

However, the PortHarcourt born singer gained grounds and international prominence through his third studio album De Rebirth, and its lead single "Plantain Boy". Both were commercially successful.

Boko Haram: Cameroon Depots 450 Nigerians

about 450 Nigerians living illegally in the country.

Those affected were picked up from Kousseri, a border town between Cameroon and Chad where they had initially been sent packing by the authorities in that country.

They were handed to government officials in Mubi, Adamawa State, North-Eastern Nigeria, according to Africa Review, a Kenyan digital news platform.

A Cameroonian official, Mr. Albert Mekondané Obounou, said those affected, "are foreign nationals without valid documents."

A security source, who asked not to be named, revealed that the move was also part of an agreement reached by countries leading the fight against the insurgents in the sub-region.

"We decided to send home all foreigners without valid papers. Other countries of the sub-region involved in the fight against Boko Haram had advocated this solution to truly fight against the terrorists who infiltrate people," the source said.

Nationals of other countries affected in the latest crackdown include Chad, Mali. Cameroon said it was only the beginning of a hunt on undocumented foreigners in the country.

Iyabo Told Me I Was Going To Die In Office – Obasanjo Reveals

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed that his eldest daughter, Iyabo, told him he was going to die in office. The former President also said his daughter said if that should happen, she would not weep for him.

The former President said he, nevertheless, replied his daughter that such would not mean anything to him since he would not be there to appreciate it.

Obasanjo, who said this in his controversial book, My Watch, said that was Iyabo's submission when he informed her and three of his other children about his desire to contest the 1999 Presidential election.

The meeting with the four children, which he said came after he had consulted almost all those that mattered before joining the presidential race, was held in New York.

He said it was ironic that Iyabo became a senator during his tenure.

Meanwhile, before being elected a senator, Iyabo was appointed a commissioner by Otunba Gbenga Daniel, while he was serving as governor of Ogun State.

Obasanjo said, "My mind was almost made up (to vie for the position of President) but I had to consult with my children. I got four of them together in New York.

"I told them I was going to decide whether to go into politics or not. Iyabo was the most antagonistic.

"She burst out loudly, 'I know you will join and you will die there and if you die, I will not weep.'

"I told her 'if I die and you weep, it is for yourself and others, not for me as I will not know you are weeping.'

"It is ironic that within 10 years, Iyabo became a Senator and I completed two terms of eight years without a scratch."

The former President added that out of the four children in attendance when he spoke with them, it was only Segun who he said, had a few words of encouragement.

The son, according to Obasanjo, said, "Daddy, you have always said that we must serve God and humanity and if this is the way you have chosen to serve God and humanity, I will pray for you."

With those words from his son coupled with the words of encouragement he said he got from those he had spoken with earlier, the Owu-born retired general said "the die was almost cast."

In the book, Obasanjo also mentioned the names of his 21 children. He was however silent on the number of his wives or the mothers of the children.

Five of the children are holders of PhD in different fields.

The children are Iyabo (PhD), who is the eldest; Busola, Segun(PhD), Gbenga(PhD), Deboye, Muyiwa, Funke, Bola (PhD) and Seun (PhD).

Also listed were Dare, Kofo, Dayo, Biyi, Bisoye, Damilola, Jonwo, Bunmi, Funso, Dayo, Toyosi and Bukola.

The listing and mentioning of the names of his children was the first time the two-time President of Nigeria, would publicly talk about his children.

Nyako’s EFCC Trial: ‘Two Witnesses Die After Giving Evidence’

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, yesterday, admitted to bail a former governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, his son, Abdulaziz and two others standing trial for alleged N40 billion money laundering charge.

That was about three hours after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, pleaded with the court against exercising its discretion in favour of the accused persons on six grounds, including that the freedom of the accused was a threat to its witnesses.

Private counsel to the EFCC, Mr Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, had told the court yesterday that two of EFCC's key witnesses against the accused persons had died mysteriously after volunteering indicting statements against the accused persons.

He gave their identities as Ma'aji Mohammad Iro and Abdulmalik Dalhatu, adding that they were not involved in autocrash but just died mysteriously.

EFCC expressed fear that if Nyako and the three others were granted bail, they might use their positions to cow other witnesses from coming out and that it would have difficulty prosecuting the case.

Jacobs also argued yesterday that both the former governor and his son, a serving senator might jump bail if so granted, because the duo fled the country after they were admitted to administrative bail by the EFCC while the matter was still under investigation.

He said they did not get them back until they procured a warrant of arrest from court and declared them wanted on the internet.

EFCC further argued yesterday that there was a prima facie evidence against the accused persons as investigation had shown that former Governor Nyako diverted public funds running into billions of naira into private accounts of companies belonging to them to develop an estate in Abuja.

Expressing fear that not only the grave offence committed by them but also the massive and incontrovertible evidence already piled up against them would tempt them to bolt away, Jacobs added that hiring 15 lawyers to defend the case was an evidence that the accused were ready to do anything to get off the hook anyway, anyhow.

EFCC suggested to the court to issue an order of accelerated hearing in the case and hear the matter day to day instead of releasing them to the free world and pose threat to its witnesses.

But the trial judge, Justice Elvis Chukwu, notwithstanding the litany of reasons given by EFCC yesterday admitted them to bail, albeit attached stringent conditions to the bail.

The accused persons were admitted to bail in the sum of N350 million each totalling N1.4 billion with two sureties in like sum each, one of which must be a serving director in the federal civil service.

They were also ordered to drop their international passports and other travel documents in their possession with the deputy registrar of the court if they must breathe air of freedom.

Justice Chukwu held that the stringent conditions were attached to ensure that they would attend court so that trial would not be delayed.

EFCC had, on Wednesday, arraigned Nyako, his senator son and two other individuals alongside four corporate persons on 37 count charge bothering on money laundering.

Others listed on the charge sheet filed by Yusuf Ali, acting deputy Director of Legal and Prosecution Department of EFCC as co-accused are: Zulkifikk Abba; Abubakar Aliyu; Blue Opal Limited; Sebore Farms and Extension Limited; Pagoda Fortunes limited; Towers Assets Management Limited and Crust energy Limited.

The accused persons however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

When the matter came up yesterday, defence counsel, Kanu Agabi, SAN, brought an application for bail for the accused, dated July 10 and filed on the same day.

Agabi predicated the application on Section 118 (2) of the Criminal Procedure Act and Section 35 of the 1999 Constitution, arguing that what the prosecution emphasised in its opposition is that the accused will not come for trial if granted bail.

He said that contrary to EFCC's fear, the accused persons were happy to stand trial because it afforded them a rare opportunity to clear themselves

A heartless madam poured hot water on her 13yrs old maid, because she reportedly boiled water with gas.

The unfortunate incident happened at Isheri Olofin Kara Berger area of Lagos state.

Guess the madam would be labeling the Boko Haram insurgents as devils and heartless men forgetting that she's their secretary..as wicked as Boko Haram.

Transgender Woman Allegedly Leaks Tyga’s N@ked Pics

Despite a wealth of jokes on Twitter and Instagram about his seemingly subpar album sales, Tyga is a fixture in headlines and in gossip columns. Most of the news revolves around his alleged romantic relationship with reality star Kylie Jenner who, at 17, is still under-age. Today (July 7), however, he finds himself deep in what Busta Rhymes would call a rigamarole. Gossip site B. Scott has posted what purport to be text messages between Tyga and the transgender pornographic actress Mia Isabella. The site cites an anonymous source who provided a tip, via email, that the Compton rapper had been involved with Isabella for as long as three years. The source claims that the pair had even hatched a plan to cover their tracks should the public catch wind of the affair, a plan that would use Isabella's burgeoning career as a fashion and style consultant to explain their connection.

Included in the text messages are at least two pictures of a man who appears to be Tyga; one includes the rapper's exposed penis. The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty MC has not explicitly commented on the matter, though he has tweeted a message that could very well be a veiled response. TMZ reports that T-Raw and his lawyer, Lee Hutton believe the rapper is the victim of a conspiracy designed to "maliciously shame" him. Hutton has confirmed that the photos are real but states the person he sent them to betrayed Tyga and is using the pics to manufacture the fake transgender model story. Hutton continued to say that "The allegations are false and socially irresponsible during a time when many Americans are celebrating equality."

Joe Budden Says He’ll Apologize to Meek Mill and Nicki Minaj

Earlier this week, Joe Budden found his name in the headlines over what he had thought were off-hand comments. The New Jersey native caught the ire of Meek Mill over comments that Budden had made on his podcast. On a recent episode, the "All of Me" star cracked that Meek's very public displays of affection toward Nicki Minaj are at odds with his on-wax persona. This led to a Twitter spat (in which Minaj eventually got involved) and several pasta-based insults. Today (July 7), Budden called in to New York's Hot 97 in an attempt to clear the whole thing up. "First of all, if there's anyone that's for love in the community and to your significant other, it would be me," he said, while going back and forth with Ebro. Budden went on to say that his comments were stripped from their context and made to seem more serious than they really were: "This is what happens on podcasts. You half-heartedly speak on things that might be a hot topic. So the [BET Awards] came on and the camera guys just showed a lot of shots of Meek blissfully smiling in love. I thought it was funny, so we joked about it on the podcast." Budden says that he has every intention of apologizing to both Meek and Nicki, and says that the former still follows him on Twitter.
