What A Pity!!! Late MKO Abiola Family Begs FG To Come To Their Aide ‘We Are Suffering’

Alhaji Muri Abiola, senior brother of the late business mogul, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola has appealed to the federal government to compensate the family having been treated badly after the death of the family breadwinner in July 1998.

Alhaji Abiola called on Governor Ibikunle Amosun to assist them in using his good offices to plead with President Muhammed Buhari to support the family as the exit of the breadwinner has created a lot of hardship into the family.

The appeal was made yesterday while speaking with newsmen at the Oja-Agbo residence of Abiola in Gbagura area of Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

Residents of Abeokuta and top government functionaries led by the deputy governor of the state, Princess Yetunde Onanuga were today at the residence to observe a prayer session in commemoration of the 22nd anniversary of the June 12 election, won by Chief MKO Abiola.

According to Muri Abiola: "the federal government has neglected us and this is not good. When MKO died, many of us were arrested for no just cause. They said they are doing some findings, we were locked up in Panti and many other cells in the country.

"After a while, we were asked to go home and nothing was given to us as compensation. We made several efforts to get our plight get across to them but nothing forthcoming till date.

"As I am speaking with you now, many of our children are out of job and we have nothing to keep bodies and souls together. This should have not happened to the family of MKO Abiola, who died because of this country. All what he stood for during his lifetime was enthronement of democracy and today, that is what many of those who were against it then are benefiting from.

"They have not accorded him the due honour he deserved. We have been neglected by the past government and we strongly believe that our governor will pass our message to President Muhammmed Buhari," Alhaji Muri Abiola pleaded.

Human Rights Activist Femi Falana Tells Buhari ‘Don’t Remove Fuel Subsidy’

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has cautioned President Muhammadu Buhari not to entertain any plan to remove fuel subsidy but rather establish modular refineries to ease the pain of the citizenry.

Falana said this while speaking at a symposium organized by the State Political and Legislative Powers Bureau in collaboration with the June 12 Coalition of Democratic Formations at LTV, Agidingbi, Ikeja in commemoration of 22nd anniversary of annulment of the June 12, 1993 general poll.

He said, "I am challenging the All Progressive Congress, APC, led Federal Government because there are pressures on President Muhammadu Buhari to inflict more punishment on Nigerians by removing the fuel subsidy."

The activist stressed that those who have stolen the wealth of the country must be made to pay back.

Falana lamented that governors have paid less attention to the diversion of public funds in the country, saying "We must take back every penny from the oil companies who owe the federal government.

On modular refinery, he said, "In our neighboring countries, they have modular refineries and they were built between $1 million and $15 million.

We must start to construct this especially in Lagos State. With this, we will not be inflicting punishment on the citizens. We will not be losing money but raise money."

The meeting was at the instance of the wife of the President.

Addressing State House Correspondents after the meeting, the wife of the Vice President,  Dolapo Osinbajo, said the meeting was a dream accomplished.

"Her Excellency, Hajia Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, has for very many months wanted to visit Chibok. She also wanted to meet with the mothers. So today we had an opportunity for them to meet face to face.

We had two of the mothers who still had their daughters missing after a year.

And Hajia being a mother, she met with them, she held them, they cried everybody cried; and whatever a mother would do is to say wait I want you to see your father and see what your father will do," Osinbajo said.

"So we are all extremely overwhelmed that at this time when the President is so busy doing so much he had time to meet with the women from Chibok.

He spoke with them in English, spoke to them in Hausa and he explained to them how he keeps saying to everyone: put yourself in their place.

So today we have had the opportunity for the President and Hajia to show that truly they are a father and a mother for the nation. And for that we are glad.''

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Chibok girls were abducted from their school in Chibok, Borno, by the Boko Haram terrorists on April 14, 2014.

OMG!!! ‘Pastor’, Four Others Arrested By Police For M.urder

Greatman Ita, a self-acclaimed pastor and four others persons have been arrested by operatives of Edo Police Command, for the murder of a welder identified as Abu Iboje…..

Greatman Ita, a self-acclaimed pastor and four others persons have been arrested by operatives of Edo Police Command, for the murder of a welder identified as Abu Iboje.

The other suspects arrested are Sylvester Ikhifa, Lazarus Anthony, Obiosa Noble and Okeh Godstime.

Police source has it that Abu was killed sometime in the month of April at his workshop located at Upper Sokponba road in Ikpoba-Okha local government, within Benin metropolis.

The 'Pastor' however denied having a hand in the killing of the late welder, adding that, he was arrested at his own shop after being identified to the police by one of the suspect.

One of the suspects, Lazarus Anthony, 21, however admitted leading the others who he said were members of his cult group to kill Abu, because he had killed a member of his cult group a day before he was killed, adding that Pastor Ita was the driver of the vehicle they used to commit to the murder.

He said, "I am a cultist and belong to black axe. Abu and his squad killed Kelvin at Upper Sokponba. The next day, I led my squad to kill Abu at his workshop. I used locally made gun. It was Edoba that asked us to do the killing, This is the first person I have killed. After killing him, I became confused and did not know what came over me.

"I am pleading for Federal Government to forgive me. I want to renounce my cult membership. We are many that are cultist in that street.

It must be recalled that over 40 persons were killed in a renewed cult war in the last few weeks, before the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, ordered a clampdown on cultists in the state.

Since the IGP's order, over 200 persons including four aides of Governor Adams Oshiomhole, have been arrested and remanded in prison custody for their involvement in cult-related killings.

If You Want To Avoid Prostate Cancer, Have More S*x

S*x is mostly seen as a pleasurable act, even though medical experts have said repeatedly that it is medicinal and a form of exercise.

Regardless, s*xual intercourse is deemed to be one of the most enjoyable acts for both men and women. However, reaching or-gasm, which is a climax of s*xual excitement, characterised by feelings of pleasure centered in the genitals, has been found to reduce the likelihood of men having prostate cancer.

In fact, apart from the health benefits of s*x
it has been proven that reaching orgasm could improve one's health. Despite boosting testosterone levels, it helps men and women to sleep better and reduce insomnia, while relieving them of stress, because the oxytocin hormone released in the process relieves tension and stimulates feelings of warmth and relaxation.

Also, previous studies have shown that apart from enhancing people's sense of smell, the oxytocin hormone released during orgasm helps people's social feel, enhance their trust and bonding with others.

Notably, men's or-gasm is complemented by eja-culation. But, interestingly, a study has shown that apart from reaching the peak of s*xual enjoyment, an orgasm a day can lower a man's risk of prostate cancer, which is one of the most common types of cancer in men and it is common in men who are about 40 years and above and its diagnosis increases with age.

But according to the study, men who have more s*x and eja-culate more frequently lower their risk of the disease. In fact, the study pointed out that those who eja-culate 21 times in a month significantly cut their risk of prostate cancer by 22 per cent.

Prostate on its own is a small walnut-shaped gland that produces the seminal fluid that nourishes and transports sperm.

The researchers from Harvard Medical School in the United States explained that orgasm flushes out cancer-causing chemicals from the system, giving room for a replacement by new ones. Thus, the more the or-gasm a man has the more his body would have been ridden of such chemicals.
"Another theory is that if sperm is regularly cleaned out to allow new cells to develop, it helps to flush out old cells and stop the build-up of old ones that could turn cancerous," said the researchers.

Guys, there you have it… get yourself a good woman who can take care of you, legitimately.

Switzerland beat Ecuador, Japan motor on

Switzerland earned a record-tying 10-1 triumph over Ecuador on Friday for their first ever Women's World Cup victory as defending champions Japan staved off a spirited figthback from Cameroon to continue their winning run.

The 11 goals scored in the match equalled Germany's 11-0 thrashing of Argentina in 2007.

Fabienne Humm was the star for Switzerland as she needed just five minutes to complete a hat-trick, the fastest one ever recorded.

Switzerland (three points), however, remained three points behind Group C leader Japan (six points) after the Asian team's 2-1 victory over Cameroon.

Aya Sameshima and Yuika Sugasawa scored first-half goals as Japan held off Cameroon's inspired second half activity which included a goal in the 90th minute.

Cameroon also remain at three points for the tournament.

The United States were unable to find a goal in a 0-0 draw with Sweden.

The result kept the suspense alive heading into the final matches in Group D as the US, with four, are a point ahead of Australia and two ahead of Sweden.

Sweden controlled much of the first half against the Americans but could not put any real pressure on goalkeeper Hope Solo.

The US subbed in all-time leading scorer Abby Wambach in the 68th minute and she narrowly missed a header opportunity down the stretch.

Earlier in the day, Australia defeated Nigeria 2-0 for their first win of the tournament.

Australia will finish Group D play against Sweden on Tuesday while the Americans close out against Nigeria.

Falcons poor against Aussies’

Former Super Falcons coach, Rolandson Odeh has said the side were off duty and wholly put every foot wrong against the Matildas of Australia.

Falcons suffered a 0-2 defeat to the Aussies in match day 2 clash in Winnipeg on Friday at the ongoing Fifa Women's World Cup in Canada.

A brace by striker, Kyah Simon handed the Australians their first vital three points of the tournament with a game against the Scandinavian side, Sweden to spare.

Odeh said the changes and tactics in the encounter proved inadequate and ineffective to hurt the Australians.

"Everything went wrong in the encounter against Australia even the changes were questionable and tactless.

"The decision of the coach to pull out a defender, Osinachi Ohale for another defender, Ugo Njoku when you are down beats my imagination.

"Australians seemed to have done a thorough study of our danger players, Asisat Oshoala, Desire Oparanozie and Francisca Ordega by practically disconnecting the cord as well as frustrating the trio.

"I said after the 3-3 draw against Sweden that our greatest undoing will be to underrate the Australians.

"I think Falcons took the opponents for granted and appeared to have celebrated the three points victory even before kickoff.

"I saw the defeat coming for Australia to have left their Oceania zone to pick qualification in the Asian stronghold means they have something in the offing to anybody who toys with them.

"It was actually a bad day for Falcons as nothing seemed to work in the clash and the result said it all," said the Bayelsa Queens coach to supersport.com.

Odeh however said Falcons can still qualify with a stunning result in the last match against two-time champions, USA.

"Of course, hope is still alive, it's not yet a hopeless situation rather time for the team to quickly push behind them the loss to Australia and focus wholly on the game against USA.

"In football anything can still happen, there won't be any need for blame game right now but for the team to keep their heads, cool off and prepare for USA.

"If Australia could pull one goal back in the 1-3 loss to USA we could do better than that by going all the way to shock the Americans.

"However, the coaches must quickly sit down to watch the clips of the encounter between Sweden and USA to come out with a potent formula to undo USA," said the former Rivers Angels coach.

The African champions will play their last group match on Tuesday in Vancouver against the USA with a point still in the kitty after two matches.

Juve lost to the world's best team - Buffon

Gianluigi Buffon insists his Juventus side lost to the 'world's best team' in their 3-1 Champions League defeat against Barcelona after the Italian champions were outgunned.

For the 37-year-old goalkeeper it was a second Champions League final disappointment as he also tasted defeat to AC Milan in the 2003 final.

The Italy international kept his side in the game with a string of superb saves, which for a while held Barcelona's star-studded attack at bay.

After Ivan Rakitic gave Barcelona an early lead in Berlin on Saturday, Juventus drew level with an Alvaro Morata second-half equaliser.

Juventus missed out on a third European crown as Luis Suarez put Barca ahead in the second-half, with Neymar scoring Barca's third with the last kick of the game.

Buffon says Juventus started to believe they could win the final after Morata's 55th minute goal, only for Barcelona to pull away and prove their status as Europe's top team.

"There was a moment, a 10-minute spell, when we thought we had the match in our hands and that's exactly when we lost it," rued the Juventus captain as Barcelona claimed the treble with their fifth European title.

"It would have been an extraordinary result.

"We didn't manage to win, but not because we didn't' try: we gave everything we had.

"Barcelona are the best team in the world in my opinion, but we have proved that we could compete."

Having steered Juventus to the Italian league and cup double on his first season in charge, their coach Massimiliano Allegri says his target is to now to defend the Serie A title and keep them among the top eight sides in Europe.

Buffon echoed those sentiments and says the team has a bright future.

"We conceded early on, but we were always in the game.

"This performance gives us hope and confidence.

"We can make sure we stay at this level next season and within the next two or three years – who knows? – maybe I'll manage to make some other dreams come true."

Barcelona eye more history

Luis Enrique says Barcelona aim to become the first team to defend the Champions League title as the head coach considers his future despite steering them to an historic treble.

Luis Suarez and Neymar scored second-half goals to give Barcelona a 3-1 Champions League final victory over Juventus on Saturday as the Spaniards became the first team to twice win the European treble.

Enrique capped his first season as Barcelona's head coach by matching Pep Guardiola's feat from the 2008/09 season when the Catalans captured the European, Spanish league and cup titles.

An early goal by Barca's Ivan Rakitic was cancelled out when Juventus' ex-Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata equalised on 55 minutes.

But Suarez put the game beyond the Italian champions with a 68th minute strike off a rebound at Berlin's Olympic Stadium before Neymar added the third with the last kick of the game in the 97th minute.

Barcelona have now won five European titles, four of which came in the last decade after their 2006, 2009 and 2011 triumphs.

Enrique says their hunger for silverware is insatiable and they want to make more history by becoming the first team to win back-to-back Champions League titles.

"This is our 60th match (this season) with six defeats and four draws," said the 45-year-old.

"Those figures show that this has been one of Barcelona's best campaigns.

"In the last ten years, this has been the most successful club in Europe.

"These players have shown hunger for victories and they've shown they enjoy it so much, we have to nourish them with more titles."

Enrique is yet to commit to a second season ahead of the club's presidential elections as he has had a tense relationship with current incumbent Josep Maria Bartomeu.

"I want to celebrate the win, but the time will come when decisions must be made," said Enrique.

"It's been a difficult year with lots of transition, but I have to thank all those who have trusted me to lead Barcelona."

Juventus suffered the unwanted fate of becoming the first team to lose six European Cup finals, 30 years after winning the trophy for the first time which was overshadowed by the Heysel Stadium disaster.

On the streets of Barcelona, where you could have heard a pin drop during the final, thousands of ecstatic fans dressed in their team colours of blue and red celebrated with cheers, chants and fire crackers.

"It's a dream, I still can't believe it!" said Eduard Ocana, a 23-year-old student, in the Catalan capital, as cries of "champions, champions!" echoed around the famous party street of Las Ramblas.

SUAREZ TRIUMPH

For Suarez it was a triumphant end to a first season with the Spanish champions after his ignominious biting ban at the World Cup.

"It's incredible, it's something unique," he said.

"The best thing about this side is the spirit and the fact we've been united since the start of the season."

In 2009 Barcelona joined the elite club of treble winners that include Celtic, Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich. Now, they are the first to have done that twice.

Despite brief moments of magic, Lionel Messi failed to become the first player to score in three Champions League finals as he along with captain Andres Iniesta and Barca icon Xavi Hernandez – in his final match for the club – equalled Dutch star Clarence Seedorf's tally of four winners' medals.

Barcelona showed early nerves with two uncustomary mistakes in defence straight from kick-off before Rakitic gave the Catalan giants the lead with just four minutes gone.

Neymar fed Iniesta from the left wing and the Spain international squared for Rakitic to drill home from close range, past Juventus captain Gianluigi Buffon.

Juve came back into the game midway through the first half, but Suarez forced Buffon, who failed to claim a winners' medal at the 12th attempt, into another save as it finished 1-0 at the break.

RECORD-BREAKING XAVI BOWS OUT

Juve got the equaliser they had threatened when defender Stephan Lichtsteiner's cross found Carlos Tevez, whose shot was parried by Barca goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, only for Morata to rifle home the loose ball on 55 minutes.

It was his first goal against Barcelona despite four years at the Bernabeu having left Madrid last year.

The goal breathed life back into Juve's ambitions, but it was a touch of Messi magic which led to the decisive goal.

The Argentina international attacked the Juve defence with a mazy run and although Buffon blocked his shot, Suarez fired home the rebound on 68 minutes.

"Unfortunately when you play against great players, you think you have things under control, then they can turn the game, as happen tonight," said Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri.

"We're sorry to have missed our chance, but I can't criticise the team."

Xavi came on for his final game in the Barca shirt in the dying stages as he made history with a record 151st Champions League appearance before joining Qatari side Al Sadd next season.

"To leave this way is amazing," said the Spain international, who lost his place in the starting side to Rakitic this season.

The scene was set for Neymar to cap his first Champions League final with Barcelona's third just before the final whistle.

Juventus hailed the achievement of Allegri in getting the team to the final during his first season in charge, and beating 2014 winners Real Madrid in the semis.

"You gave us a dream. Thanks, mister," said Juventus's official Twitter account.

FG Bans Police, Other Para-Military Agencies From Using Camouflage Uniforms

The use of camouflage uniforms by various security agencies other than the Armed Forces namely the Army, Navy and the Air Force has been banned.

The Nigerian Police will however, use its camouflage uniform when in Joint Operation with the military or on special operation such as specific anti-riot missions, a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Chris Olukolade, said Friday.

Olukolade, a Major General, said the new rule was sequel to the directive of the National Security Council approving the recommendations of a committee on measures to streamline the use of camouflage uniforms.

This, he said, was in view of the security implications and concerns raised on the clamour, duplicity and proliferation of camouflage uniforms in the country.

"The use of camouflage/fatigue is therefore restricted to the military and for occasional use by the police henceforth", the statement said.

The Defence spokesman added, "The directive also stipulates that the military is to adopt only two types of camouflage for the three arms of the Armed Forces.

"All para-military agencies using various camouflage/fatigues uniforms have up to January 2016 to withdraw such materials currently in their inventory.

"With this development, the Ministry of Justice along with law enforcement agencies have been tasked to ensure that extant laws guiding the use of uniforms in Nigeria are strictly enforced.

"In the same vein, the Office of the National Security Adviser has been vested with the authority to vet and clear any production and supply of camouflage uniforms in Nigeria.

"The proliferation and imitation by criminals and impostors using uniforms especially the camouflage have been generating some concern in national security circles.

"The development has been communicated to all the agencies by the Office of the National Security Adviser".

Osun Salary Crisis Is Beyond My Control – Aregbesola

Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State on Friday said the economic situation in the state that led to his administration's inability to pay workers' salaries was beyond his control.

He said it was heart-rending that he had found himself in the situation which he described as a quagmire.

Aregbesola spoke with State House correspondents after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari behind closed-doors at the Defence House in Abuja.

He said he was not happy the same way a head of a family would feel when he cannot meet the needs of his family members.

He said, "No head of the family will be happy that he cannot feed members of the family.

"Extend that to state, it is heart-rending that I am in this quagmire.

"But no matter how sad (I don't want to use the word 'depressed'), no matter how unhappy I am, the truth is that I will not fail to say that it is a situation absolutely beyond my control.

"I led an administration in receipt of regular allocation in which I do my budget.

"Unfortunately, this allocation started falling in rapid form that totally disorganised my budget and any other arrangement."

Aregbesola said those who want to be objective would readily admit that the Osun State of November 2010 when he assumed office and Osun of today are not the same.

He said people must give credit to the changes that his administration had brought about in the state, saying the changes were not miracles but were occasioned by application of resources.

The governor further explained that with the unexpected and sharp decline in revenue, his administration had a dislocation.

The result of that dislocation, he explained, is the sad experience.

The governor added, "Were it to be Osun alone, probably I would not have an excuse.

"I pray it does not continue. I am not sure if there will be any state that will actually escape from the biting effect of the absolute sharp drop which I call economic disaster that we are grappling with.

"Since my inauguration on November 27, 2010, I had made it a duty to pay salary on or before 25th of every month up until January 2014 when that became practically impossible.

"I have been giving the same staff who today are, regrettably and painfully, not being paid annual bonus that we call 13th month salary. There was no demand for it. I just felt that workers must be encouraged, they must be inspired.

"I did that religiously and faithfully from 2010 to 2013. The development that led to this began precisely in July when we received the June allocation and it was short by 40 percent.

"Since then, what we have been receiving from the Federation Account is less than the wages, personnel cost. It is far and not mildly less."

Aregbesola said he struggled with it till October 2014 when there was nothing else he could do.

He said the situation was further compounded by the fact that his government could not go to bank to borrow to pay the wages commitment.

The governor however said that with the efforts he was putting in place, there might be solution by month end.

"It is a sad development. I am struggling to reduce the pain as much as possible and I am almost at the end of the efforts I am making to ensure that by the end of this month, I will have enough to at least meet to a large extent the salary needs of the workers," he declared.

Buhari To Select Ministers Next Week

President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to unveil list of his Ministers next week baring any unforeseen circumstances that may prevent it, Vanguard reports, citing sources.

A source from the All Progressives Congress (APC) told Vanguard that the president had delayed releasing the list because the 8th parliament was yet to come on board

Apart from the Ministerial appointments, it was gathered that the president would also make some others necessary appointments. This would include appointment into the Office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation.

Some of those expected to make the new list of Ministers are the immediate past governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fasola, former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Abdurrahman Dambazau (retd).

Fashola may be engaged by Buhari as the nation's Justice Minister and Attorney General. Dambazau may become Nigeria's defence minister. It will be recalled that Dambazau headed the Security and Intelligence Directorate of the APC Presidential Campaign Council just as Fayemi also headed that of Policy, Research and Strategy.

A former governor of Ekiti State, Engineer Segun Oni, Education minister in the Obasanjo government, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili and Prof. Pat Utomi are also believed to be in consideration.

Buhari To Bail Out Cash-strapped States

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom says President Muhammadu Buhari would extend bailout to states to enable them offset backlog of salaries and liabilities crippling their economic activities across the country.

Speaking, yesterday, in Makurdi, the state capital, during separate meetings with students and other union leaders from the Benue State University (BSU), Ortom revealed that his predecessor, Gabriel Suswam left behind a debt burden of over N90 billion for his administration, contrary to the N9.2 billion debt he claimed he left.

According to Ortom, "the list of the debt (left behind by Suswam) include N50 billion incurred from ongoing contracts, N18 billion on certificated contracts, N12 billion on salary arrears and about N10 billion for bonds and bank facilities and loans."

While the state waits for the lifeline from the FG, Ortom said Benue had concluded arrangements to borrow funds to pay one month of the backlog of salary arrears across board and to also ensure the take off of both the executive and legislative arms of government.

He said the decision was prompted by the need to demonstrate to the state work force that he was determined to address their problems and to persuade striking tertiary institution workers to call off their four-month-old strike.

Benue is among the cash-strapped states in the country. Others include Osun, Enugu, Kaduna, Plateau and Imo. Most of the states or their local governments are said to be owing between four to seven months salaries of workers amounting to several billions of Naira.

Soyinka Warns Buhari Against Assenting To s*xual Offences Bill

Nobel laureate Prof Wole Soyinka has advised President Muhammadu Buhari against assenting to the s*xual Offences Bill recently passed by the 7th National Assembly.

The bill, sponsored by Senator Chris Anyanwu, prescribed life imprisonment for anyone who has s*xual intercourse with a child under 11 years. However, it does open a loophole whereby pedophiles can marry an underage and be protected by law as a married female, no matter the age, will be considered an adult.

In an open letter to the human rights community as the commemorates the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election, yesterday, Soyinka noted that "all the new bill does is empower the clique of pedophiles. All you need do is 'marry' even a six-year old under any local laws, and do whatever you want with her.

"Through marriage, she is already an 'adult'. Her 'defiler' is now fully protected by this law. She is not. The current Bill is the ancient story of locking the stable door after the horse has bolted. End of story?

"The question on my mind is this: Is that legislative reinforcement not merely a case of rubbing vaseline on leprosy?

"In this supposedly progressive bill, sponsored by the respected Senator Chris Anyanwu. I could not help but notice a reiteration – as if to ensure that there is no ambiguity – of the word 'child', near superfluously. Well, we understand 'child' as defined in most dictionaries. There is however also child as defined by the Nigerian legislature. This definition is contained in a prior Bill." The Bill, being referred to by Soyinka was sponsored by Senator Ahmed Yerima, a former governor of Zamfara State, who himself married a 14-year-old.

"Does Yerima's Bill, gleefully assented to by his peers, not simply vitiate this latter, supposedly humane concern for the protection of the child?" Soyinka queried.

"This issue of child protection looms large all over the world – including bills passed or under debate. It is one that defines us in our own estimation and in global view as worthy to be counted among humanity, or as the base kind of living species that exist solely for their sensual gratification, even at the cost of the emotional and physiological well-being of the weak and vulnerable of society. Our lawmakers have betrayed our children.

"This latest addition of insult to social injury was tucked within a last-minute avalanche of bills that were passed at lightning speed during the tail-end of the last legislative assemblage – 47 bills in under 3 hours – surely one for the Guinness Book of Records. An accident? Or by design? This bill, subjected to wrong arguments, merely consolidates the reduction of female minors to s*x objects. As long as you can afford a bag of rice or ten thousand dollars, you are free to r*pe a child to death. This, surely cannot pretend to represent the will of a people who care. Once you re-define female adulthood as marital status, all subsequent protection bills for the girl-child are worthless, cynical.

"Neither culture nor religion is at issue here. It is, quite starkly, an issue of science, the science of the human body, one that demonstrably instructs us when the female human body is still at risk from conjugal rites.

"I find unacceptable any effort to build a nation on perversions that merely minister to man's s*xual appetites. This is a sordid appeasement of a minority who actually require psychiatric help.

"Let us learn from the heroes of June 12. Few people have done more for the cause of liberation than the Hero of this day. M.K.O.Abiola was an open polygamist. None of his wives was ever found to be below the only age of consent that is now needlessly under contention – the scientific. We cannot substitute science and observation for any spurious alibis that sacrifice the child to private lust!"

Police Declares PDP Governorship Aspirant In Plateau Wanted Over N22m Dud Cheque

An aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2014 governorship election in Plateau State, Jimmy Cheto, was on Thursday declared wanted by the Nigeria Police over a dud cheque he issued for a N22million loan he obtained five years ago.

The warrant for Mr. Cheto's arrest was issued by the office of the Commissioner of Police, Police Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The notice, which was advertised in the Thursday, June 11, 2015 edition of Daily Trust, said the former aspirant issued a dud check to his creditors for a N22million loan obtained in August 25, 2010.

The police had also offered a handsome reward to any person who locates Mr. Cheto and aids his arrest.

Reacting to the warrant for his arrest, Mr. Cheto denied he was evading the police.

Speaking with journalists on Friday at his residence in Jos, the Plateau State capital, he said no police personnel had confronted him over the issue.

"I am a law abiding citizen", he said. "How can I resist police arrest? No police personnel has demanded my attention on this matter. For more emphasis, I have not travelled out of this country in the last five years. I have been in Nigeria; presently, I reside here in Jos, No. 19 Nasarawa Road Jos, Plateau State, and no police officer has looked for me. How can they say I am nowhere to be found?

"I believe the publication in Daily Trust of today (Thursday), page 9 was done to embarrass my person. But as a law abiding citizen, I have consulted my lawyers and they have advised me accordingly. I told my lawyers to accompany me to the headquarters of the Nigeria police here in Jos to report myself to the commissioner of police, so I am not wanted".

Mr. Cheto, however, declined comment on the details of the N22 million loan, saying his lawyers have been fully briefed on the allegations.
