At least nine persons have been killed while many were severely injured as the clashes between two cult groups resurfaced in Ijebu Ode township in Ijebu Ode local government area of Ogun state.

It was gathered that the two cult groups that have been terrorising the peaceful town of Ijebu Ode are the Aiye and the Eiye groups.

The crisis began last Tuesday after the killing of a member of the Aiye group, who is a student of Moshood Abiola Polytechnics, MAPOLY, Ojere in Abeokuta was in Ijebu Ode to visit his sister who got married last Saturday to one Sanwo, who was identified as a former leader of the group.

The boy, who is known as Kole was murdered at Paka base around Aiyegun junction in Ijebu Ode last week Tuesday. The development triggered his colleagues to begin to unleash terror on the Eiye cult group.

The following day, Wednesday, last week, a member of Eiye group identified as Saheed, who works at the sawmill in Ejirin road, Ijebu Ode as a loader was killed at Olisa street in Ijebu Ode.

Similarly, two people were killed on Thursday, throwing the town into palpable fear as sporadic gunshot rented the air for most part of the day.

One person was killed around Molipa expressway while another, whose alias is "Ikotun Egbe" was also shot dead at Idogi street, around Italapo area. Both were believed to be members of Eiye cult group.

Our correspondent gathered from a relative of the deceased that "Ikotun Egbe" has been out of the town for two years and only arrived that Thursday afternoon, hoping to resume as a driver for truck loading company Continental Brewery, Imagbon-Ijebu.

The matter got to the peak this week Tuesday when Ijebu Ode became a battle field for the cultists as markets and shops were hurriedly locked up when the boys started shooting sporadically and displaying dangerous weapons while chasing themselves around the town.

At the end of the day, three persons, believed to be members of Eiye cult group were killed while another two escaped the onslaught as they fled through Sabo road to Itanrin township.

The first victim was killed at the Awujale roundabout, near the local government secretariat, Itoro. The second person, by name Segun, a.k.a. Omo Alhaja, a motorcycle ticketer was killed at the Talbot junction, opposite the Catholic church, beside St. Augustine primary school.

The identity of the third person, whose corpse was seen along Makalewo road, along Oke owa road could not be ascertained as at the time of filling this report.

The duo of Kemi, a.k.a. OBG and Yemi, also known as Old soldier, who sources revealed are members of the Eiye cult group escaped after suffering attacks several times between Monday and Wednesday (yesterday).

OBG is the Chairman of the AMORAN body, a motorcycle group at the Sabo junction in Ijebu Ode.

Efforts to get the DPO, Igbeba police station to react to the killings proved abortive but a police source confirmed the killings within the town in the last one week to our correspondent.

The source who pleaded anonymity however disclosed that the incident has been a thorn in the flesh of the police but noted that plans are underway with the support of the Vigilante Service of Ogun state, VSO to nip them on the bud.
